Do you allow double embryo transfers (DET)?
Heartland Surrogacy does not have a specific policy regarding the number of embryos transferred. We support bodily autonomy for all our clients. We believe the decision of how many embryos to transfer is best made between the person and their doctor.
That being said, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) strongly recommends a single embryo transfer when there is a favorable prognosis. As a result of ASRM’s guidance, we are seeing more fertility clinics who do not perform DETs. Additionally, many surrogates are not comfortable transferring more than one embryo at a time due to the risks involved with carrying multiples. Intended parents interested in a DET can expect a longer wait to match with their surrogate.
