Ideas for Announcing Your Surrogacy Pregnancy
Announcing that you are expecting a child through surrogacy can be an exciting milestone in your journey. How you share the news with someone will of course depend on your relationship with that person. Some close family members and friends may know from the beginning of your journey because of their role in supporting you. They may be attending fertility appointments, helping you finance your journey, or assisting with major decisions. For the rest of your crew, the following suggestions can make your surrogacy announcement fun and add to the joy of your journey.
Surrogacy Photography
Surrogacy announcement photoshoots are a popular way to visually share about a surrogacy journey. Surrogacy photos often include the parent(s)-to-be with items such as a pair of baby shoes, a onesie, and/or an ultrasound picture. Photos of only these items with the parent name(s) and the baby’s due date are also popular.
You may be interested in inviting your surrogate to be a part of the photoshoot. Doing so can highlight your relationship with her and the journey you have shared. Poignant images of your surrogate holding a sign with a sweet message (“the ultimate gift,” “this one’s for you,”) can be a heartwarming way to announce your journey. If you have an older child (human or pet!), you can also enlist them to present the news in the photos.
You can post your photos on social media or send them in private messages to friends and family. You may also want to frame surrogacy photos, print them on canvas, or showcase them in a surrogacy journey scrapbook.
Surrogacy Video
Another visual option for announcing your surrogacy pregnancy is creating a video montage of your journey so far. You can include ultrasounds, meetings with your surrogate, even a tour of the baby’s nursery coming together. For a simpler message, you can share just a video of an ultrasound, which many medical providers will share with intended parents.
Gifts
If your announcement is close to a gift-giving holiday or a birthday, you can take advantage of this opportunity by “gifting” your announcement. Grandparents-to-be will especially be fond of a framed ultrasound; cute “auntie of the year” or “best uncle” gifts can also be a fun surprise for those family members. For a sentimental touch, you can ask your surrogate to write a letter to your family in which she describes who she is and how your journey together has been thus far.
Surrogacy Reveal Party
You can also surprise many friends and family members at once by hosting a party. To make the event memorable, gather your unsuspecting loved ones for a casual get-together, then surprise them with the news. If you like the idea of an event but want to wait until later in the pregnancy, you can break the news through an invitation to your surrogacy baby shower.
Although some aspects of family building through surrogacy are different than a traditional pregnancy, they have in common the joy that can come from announcing that you’re expecting. We hope that these ideas help you in planning your surrogacy announcement!
