The main difference between these two types of surrogacy is simple: genetics!
In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is genetically related to the child. The surrogate’s own eggs are used and she is the biological mother of the child.
In gestational surrogacy, the embryo is created with an egg from the Intended Mother or an egg donor. The surrogate does not have any genetic ties to the baby.
Most surrogacy journeys now are completed using a gestational surrogate.
*Heartland Surrogacy only handles gestational surrogacy cases.
